Posadis 0.50.x
Posadis 0.50.x is the older stable series of Posadis. It doesn't have resolving and caching, like Posadis 0.60.x, but it is more time-tested (though I wouldn't know whether it is more stable). The 0.50.x series of Posadis will continue to be maintained, but no signifficant new features will be added.Latest release
The latest 0.50.x release is Posadis 0.50.9, released 4 February 2003. You can get it from the download page, or see the ChangeLog here.Errata
Posadis is known to have problems when set as a secondary with MS-DNS primary DNS server. This might cause Posadis to crash, and it will at least cause Posadis to be unable to load the zone. The solution can be found here.
If you have a CNAME pointing to a non-existent domain name, lookups for that CNAME domain name will cause Posadis to crash. This bug has been fixed in the stable CVS, and will be incorporated in the next Posadis release.
Unix issues
- Some GCC compilers wrongly optimize code in the Configuration Center. One symptom of this problem is the appearance of random binary bytes in TXT RRs in the master file editor. If you encounter this problem (I had it with Mandrake 8.1), please try to compile with
./configure --with-cxxflags="-funsigned-char"
and see if that solves the problem.
Windows issues
Windows version of the original Posadis 0.50.9 release had a broken version of the Configuration Center that was unable to correctly edit SOA records, causing the zone editor to become pretty much useless. Additionally, a fix was release prematurely that showed a "MS-DOS Prompt" window. Though based on the same source, Unix versions did not have this problem, causing us to assume this is a problem with the Mingw compiler on Windows. Either way, if you download a new Posadis, you will have a fixed Config Center. But if you still run a buggy 0.50.9, you can download the gtk-pconf.exe here, which has the md5sum 028e016f6eddd33c6197acbd1eff4ae5.
When run on Windows 95, Posadis might whine about a missing msvcrt.dll file. This dll file, which is included in Windows 95 SR1 and higher, and which is also bundled with many applications, can be downloaded at various places on the web, for example, here.
There are no other currently known issues. If you have problems, be sure to them.
